Selby Green Party Says: “Nigel Adams should hang his head in shame”

Selby Green Party was shocked to see video footage of Nigel Adams MP swearing at a member of public in London yesterday.

Steve Bray, known for his long campaign to stop Brexit, had asked Mr Adams in the street about the progress of the Health & Social Care Bill being debated in the House of Commons. Mr Adams swore on camera at the campaigner in public view, telling him he was ‘annoying’.

Arnold Warneken of Cowthorpe, who stood in the 2019 General Election against Mr Adams, said:

“He’s a disgrace. No public servant should be allowed to talk to a member of the public like this no matter how irritating they may be. Being challenged on policy is a daily expectation of an MP – it comes with the job. His is not just an MP, he holds a senior ministerial post and receives a 6-figure remuneration from us all. We have a right to a higher standard than this.”

11 September update, in response to Nigel Adams' inadequate response:

“Selby and District Green Party views Nigel Adams behaviour as unacceptable. As an MP his conduct like all public servants should be of the highest standards and setting an example. Using offensive language such as this could potentially be seen as a breach of section 5 of the Public Order Act.

“Rather than simple commenting that the... “colourful language” reflected the views of many MPs who had encountered Mr Bray, Nigel Adams should have publically recognised and admitted his behaviour and language was inappropriate and not as expected as a minister of Government."
